ith the amount of test gear available to the consumer in the market place today

the humble multi meter tends to get lost in the crowd!, but the simple fact remains

that this is the most useful and important piece of equipment a technician can have

in his tool box, they have also come a long way from the basic Analogue types that

were available 20 years ago.

Although hundreds of multi meters have been bolted together over the years (some

good and some bad), the Protek 506 featured here stands out from the competition

in every way, in fact our testing against all of the major brands (some of which

cost upwards of $900.00 ) revealed it to be the most accurate and in our opinion

offer the best value for money on the Australian electronics retail market today!.

Now before everybody gets upset and criticizes us about our decision you need

to know a few facts that we have based our decision on, the first being value for

money!, if you look at the amount of features this unit gives you its amazing!.

As well as the usual Resistance, Diode, Continuity, Current and Voltage Scales

you also get Temperature, Capacitance, Inductance, Frequency Measurement, Signal

Generation, Logic Test, A Frequency Counter, Data Hold and the ability to connect

it to you're PC with the RS232 Cable And Software provided!.

The thing that really impressed us about this unit was the way it performed at the

extreme end of its various ranges, that is if you test a very low ohm resistor,

(as an example a .47 Ohm 1 watt wire wound ) on many meters they will

struggle to give you an accurate reading, but good ones will handle this simple

trial and this unit is up there with the best!.

Another thing we liked about the Protek 506 was the current range which goes

to a full 20 Amps AC and DC, you usually only find this on high end test equipment,

so if you're looking for a Multi meter that can diagnose virtually every part on a circuit

board then this is it!.
